Will he visit us??
Counting Down
In this last week before Christmas, we've been running errands, making some last minute Christmas gifts, wrapping things and trying to keep some holiday magic going. This year the boys have made Christmas really special for Reed and I--we both agree that this year they both seem to really FEEL it, and their excitement and wonder are contagious. It's been so fun doing starting new traditions and bringing old ones back. Sharing Christmas movies that we watched as children with them as they finally not only understand but are eager to watch.
One of the things we did this week was go to Bass Pro Shop to see Santa's Workshop. We'd already been to see the big man at our mall, but I'd heard that the workshop was alot of fun and we had a free day, so I figured two visits to put in a good word wouldn't hurt.
After assuring Santa that they have both been very good and letting him know that Carson wants a nerf gun ("I promise I won't shoot my baby sister") and Trevor wants a medium bike ("Because I'm a medium boy now"), they were ready to check out the other fun things at the workshop. Of course I made them pose for a few pictures first.
Watch the fish...

As it passed their heads here, it totally took a fish dump. I was laughing hysterically and the boys wanted to know why.

Just Reminiscing
at four months old, she's more wonderful than ever.
so alert, always smiling, cooing to get our attention. her face lights up when her sweet brothers talk to her. she gets excited and kicks and squeals when Daddy gets home. and she sometimes gives that contented baby sigh when I pick her up and nuzzles her head on my chest.
We love you Addie-pie!
Christmas Program
Last night was Carson's first ever Christmas Program that he performed in.
It was very sweet, very cute, and very LOUD.
The school he goes to has a pretty nice stage and sound system, which they could have turned down a bit.
Either way, the songs were adorable and sang with gusto!

completely sew-tarded
one of my aunts gave me her old sewing machine and I was so excited! when I do crafts with materials I have to hand stitch, which I'm okay with, it's just time consuming.
So when this was offered, I immediately started thinking of all the cute things I could make...clothes for addie, better curtains, cool gifts, felt foods....
So the other morning I decide to attempt something I am making for Christmas. After 6 phone calls and three youtube instructional videos, I finally get the thing threaded correctly. You read that right. And man, isn't YouTube amazing?? I had no idea there were videos like that..
Anyway, I finally got it threaded, and went to town. All was well until I turned the material over...

Yeah, oops.
It's just insane to me. I'm a pretty intelligent person with an IQ well up there. I am also pretty darn crafty. I can make halloween costumes out of old clothes and $1 and you wouldn't even know they began with junk. I've made curtains and shower curtains out of sheets. I can paint and crochet and scrapbook...but sewing? gets the best of me every time. Which is pretty sad since my mom is a master sew-er (?) and made a good deal of my clothes growing up. My aunt, too!
So, did they get all the sewing genes, thereby leaving the pool empty of that talent? LOL

December is Crazy!
This whole month has been me running around like a crazy person! Last minute gifts, crafts, Christmas traditions, decorating, plus work and the usual three kid circus!
On top of all that, I am trying to get a child portrait thing going and will probably start a new blog just for that. I just plain don't have the time to make it look like I want right this second, so it's going to have to wait. Probably until 2010.
In the meantime, here are a few cuties I did a photoshoot with last week. It was so fun!
I am now finally convinced that I could do this as a profession! Fun fun...

Good Morning!
Little Painters
the boys are getting ready for christmas by making some gifts for their grandparents.
they are so ready for christmas to be here. funnily enough, so am I! I'm all finished with my gift list this year and only have a few things for their stockings to buy. I'm ready to relax, have some yummy christmas meal (haven't planned what we're having yet, any suggestions?), watch our boys enjoy their new toys and celebrate the first christmas with my baby girl.

Diaper butt
I've never considered myself "crunchy". The first two times I was a parent, I didn't know there were titles for parenting styles. "Crunchy" means more natural...as in granola? Crunchy moms cloth diaper, make their own baby food, use a baby sling instead of stroller, delay or sometimes do not vaccinate, etc etc.
I'm certainly a mix between crunchy and not, and here's one instance where I think I could easily be crunchy.
We've always used disposable diapers, but my friend Darcy gave us this starter set of G-diapers--which are cloth liners with flushable inserts. Regular disposables take over 500 YEARS to break down, where as these flush easily and don't have any chlorine in them, so they're supposed to be much easier on the environment. It's like a hybrid between Pampers and those thick folded things your mom put on you with safety pins.
Anyway, A is finally big enough to use the set we had, and I have to say I REALLY like them.
the covers are cute, trim, and reallllllly soft.
the liners are easy, quicky and definitely not messy. it takes maybe 30 seconds more to change one of these than a regular disposable, because you have to change the liner. If I bought enough of the covers, I could pre-fill them with liners and even that would be eliminated.
They're breathable, she hasn't had even a hint of diaper rash since I started using them and did I mention they are cute??

see??

Thanksgiving
Since I had my blog on hiatus due to the weird situation, I missed blogging about Thanksgiving and a few other things. How was your Thanksgiving?
We had Mimi and Poppi down from NC for a whole week and the kids had a blast!
They took C to school every morning, and it was nice to have a break from that! Mimi took C to his boy scout meeting one night, too. Fun to let someone else share in those kinds of things since it's usually just me.
We went to Destin for a bit one day, but mostly just hung out. Thanksgiving Day we invited John, our neighbor, over for dinner and we had a great time. The food was YUMMY and I made carrot cake truffles and they were really good. I was unsure how the carrot cake would taste, but I used cream cheese icing to roll them with and then vanilla bark for the outside. Then I piped little carrots on top with leftover icing! They were pretty cute, but got eaten so fast I didn't get a picture!
This was A's first big holiday, and she had a blast playing with Mimi and Poppi and started really responding to us by blowing raspberries. I got video, I'll have to upload!

A in her indian hat--the boys had one too, but I didn't get a good picture of them!

Mimi and chunky baby giggling!

all of my boys on T-day for a little photo shoot
